Damage to hearing is the general term if you are hearing less either permanently or temporarily as a result of physical damage to your hearing.
Damage to hearing takes place gradually and surreptitiously . It often starts out as a temporary beeping in the ears after attending a concert or working with a drill.
Over the course of time the beeping takes longer to disappear, or you hear less if there are many people around you talking during a birthday party or reception. It can also be that you are bothered with ringing or buzzing in your ears. Then it seems like you are constantly hearing the rustling of trees or the sea or a hissing sound in your head. In the third and final phase, damage to the hearing is permanent. You do not hear well or are hard of hearing.
