Did you know?

How long you are safe in situations with high noise levels depends on the volume of the sound. This progression is logarithmic, which means it increases rapidly.

As a result, the safe exposure time quickly becomes shorter, even if the level is only slightly higher. As a general rule, for every increase of 3 dB in volume, the safe exposure time is halved.

  • 80 dB: Damage can occur after 8 hours of exposure.
  • 86 dB: Damage can occur after 2 hours of exposure.
  • 92 dB: Damage can occur after 30 minutes of exposure.
  • 98 dB: Damage can occur after 7.5 minutes of exposure.
  • 101 dB: Damage can occur after less than 4 minutes of exposure.

At a concert, club, or festival where the upper limit is 103 dB, you can quickly suffer hearing damage. Understanding how sound levels work is essential to protecting your hearing.

Ringing in your ears after a night out is a typical sign of hearing damage. Hearing damage is irreversible. The best and easiest way to protect yourself is by wearing earplugs.
