Indy 500® Race Events in 2025

The Indianapolis 500-Mile® race, sometimes called the Indianapolis 500® but most commonly known as the Indy 500®, is an annual auto race in the state of Indiana that was first held in 1911. Along with the 24H of Le Mans® and the F1® Monaco Grand Prix, the Indy 500® forms the Triple Crown of motorsport.

When the circuit (the Indianapolis Motor Speedway) was built in 1909, it had a brick surface. Although it was later replaced with asphalt, one yard (0.91 meters) of original bricks remains at the start/finish line. This is why the circuit earned the nickname 'Brickyard'. Indy 500® races are traditionally held during Memorial Day weekend, which usually falls on the last weekend of May. The race is currently part of the IndyCar Series, which has been organized since 1996.
