Formula 1® Noise: A Real Hearing Threat
Formula 1® races are some of the loudest sporting events in the world. Race engines produce 130–150 decibels – loud enough to cause immediate, permanent hearing damage.
The risk is real and immediate:
- A few hours at the circuit without protection can cause lasting hearing damage
- Hearing loss isn't felt immediately, but by the time you notice it, it's permanent
- Many race fans experience tinnitus (ringing ears), hearing loss and long-term sound sensitivity after race weekends

Getting the Right Fit
Earplugs
Insertion:
- Hold the earplug by the filter (center), not the tip
- Tilt your head so your ear points downward
- Insert gently – don't force
- Press and release to seal
- It should feel snug, not painful
Care & Cleaning:
Wash your earplugs with lukewarm water and mild soap after using. Let dry completely before storage. Proper care keeps them fresh for the entire race season.
Earmuffs
Ensure the headband is adjusted for a comfortable, secure fit. Earmuffs can be worn all day without discomfort. Adjust as needed throughout the race weekend.
Yes. Alpine Formula 1® products reduce harmful noise while preserving the sounds you want to hear, like engines, strategy radio or crowd energy. You can experience the race fully, just at safe levels.
Alpine Tune F1® Edition is the newest option with premium design, four sizes, and a keychain case. Racing Pro Earplugs are the classic, proven choice at a lower price point. Both offer certified protection.
Alpine Formula 1® products are reusable and made to last the entire race season. Clean 2-3 times weekly with lukewarm water and mild soap, let dry completely, and they're ready for the next race weekend.
Yes. Alpine Formula 1® products are made from soft materials and designed ergonomically for extended wear. If you do find them uncomfortable, you may need a different size.
